Who Is Matthias Valk?

Matthias Valk is a storyteller who finds fiction hiding inside history. He reads classical literature, historical accounts, early science fiction, and primary sources — then writes original stories grounded in real events and real human drama.

The stories here are not historical recreations. They are original fiction. But they begin with something true: a real person, a real event, a real silence in the record that suggests something worth imagining.

The Method

Every story starts with a historical foundation — a person, an event, a period that left enough trace to be researched but enough gap to be inhabited. Matthias reads into that foundation until the fiction becomes inevitable. The "Historical Foundation" block at the start of each story names the source material and the primary texts.

The writing itself is entirely original. The goal is not accuracy — it is truth of a different kind: the kind that lives in the gap between what happened and what it felt like.

The Voice

Literary but accessible. Not academic. Not pulpy. The kind of writing that respects the reader's intelligence without requiring a PhD to follow.

The stories vary in length — from 2,000 to 10,000 words — and in genre. Historical fiction, science fiction, alternate history. What they share is an origin in something real, and a conviction that the most interesting stories are the ones history almost told.
